I have had my credit card for a year and a half, I always made 3xs the payment of the amount due each month. Since January they have raised my intrest to around 29 % never was late and always made more than min payments. A few months ago they changed my payment date, with out a notice, yes it was on the bill but there were no special notes about the change and it was almost 10 days earlier than usual, I do all payments online so I was suprised to see that I was late on my next statement and that they were charging me a $45 late fee, I called to see if I could get it waived considering I had never been late and that they moved my payment date up. They said "no, nothing they could do "and made it look as if I was stupid for not noticing the payment date had changed.
I had lost my job awhile back but this did not effect my payments, I have always (even with little unemployment benifets) made ontime and more than min payments. I asked about there insurance for life events and such, I am due to have a baby in August, I signed up thinking I could use the 4 months offered by the insurance to wave my payments and intrest until I was able to find a job. I still pay my monthly payments and am on time along with now paying the insurance.
THE FINAL BLOW: I recieved a letter today saying that they were cancelling my card due to one of three reasons(most likely the my credit report from experium...they were medical bills).
What am I to do with a baby on the way, living in a 15% unemployment rated state, and not yet done with college? I know they cancelled me because the found that I would be utilizing the insurance plan I purchased and would be relieved of making payments for four months.
HOW IS THIS LEGAL? How is this kind of bussiness allowed to continue taking advatage of Americans? |
