Review: I've been wanting to get in with GECRB for awhile. Received a pre-approval offer in the mail for the JCP card last week. Instant approval online for $500...can't wait to get these great increases I keep hearing about! Might go for Gap next...

Review: Went in store to look for grandkids an outfit for a family members wedding this month. Cashier asked if I would like to apply, said no but went ahead and apply for 20 percent off. And by surprise was approved. Have been wanting this card and by grace of God got it. Finished getting cards now. Thanks FG and members.

Review: I have a score of 560 and was declined. I have about 7 negative things on my credit (late payments and 2 collections accounts), and 11 accounts in good standing. All of the negative ones have been paid off though and show a balance of $0 now.

Review: Score 594. Have been using this site and another to build my score from 541 6 months ago. Have opened several lines of credit during this time to build it. My score when I applied and was approved for this card was 564, a couple of months ago. Low limit, but I think as my revolving credit increases, they'll slap some more bucks on there. Received card in a week. With a $10 coupon no less!

Review: My husband has this card and I am an authorized user, which is good because this shows up on my credit report as well. His credit limit is 500. I liked it and used it much more before JCPenneys did their big change over because I would get reward coupons and at times not spend very much at all. I would recommend this card.

Title: Instant In-store Approval

Review: So, as a person who is building their credit for the first time I was at JCP and I thought what the heck, I will give it a go. The associate was very nice, and I said I don't know if I will get approved, as I am just starting out. Well after about 3 mins the lady smiled handed me a paper with a $500 credit limit. The benefits are great, you earn 25% more reward points, and for the first day, 20% all you purchases. There was a $2 rack so I loaded up, spent $30 and paid it off in the store before I left. I hear they are great with CLI even though $500 is a pretty good limit for only my second credit card. My scores are in the low 800's.

Review: Okay so I was doing a credit check to see what accounts were open that were un active. Then I saw that I had a JCPenney account opened in 2007 with a 124 CL I was like why soo little. Then I called to verify if it was really open and it was so I ask for a card and after non usage since 2008 I made a purchase and it automatically boosted my CL from $124 to $1,000 I was happy for that. I will continue to use this card. It has good rewards.

Took only a minute, was instantly approved for $500.00 and the APR is 26.99%, pulled my TransUnion report score at the time of approval was 705! The rewards program isnt too shabby either! From what I have read on here, the increases with this card are very generous, I hope this card grows with me!

Review: I applied for this card in 12/10 when my score was around 600, maybe a little under. I was only given a $150 CL. However, after a FEW months of making small purchases and paying them off right away, my CL was increased to 1,400!

Title: Pre-qualified Approval

Review: My mom has a JCP credit card and I secretly wanted one for myself but I never applied. Too much personal rejection and I just didn't have the nerve although my credit has been more than adequate despite my sporadic work history since the economic bust. Upon receiving the offer, I decided to go ahead and give it a shot since it was a pre-qualified offer I was shocked that I was approved for 1000.00. I was not expecting a grand, perhaps 200.00 or so. JCP is a great store and when they have a sale, it is truly a sale. Although I will not be shopping as extensively as I have during the previous years for the holidays, I know I can buy quality items at JCP for the fraction of the cost.

Today I decided to try again for the jc penny card, and was approved instantly. I estimate my FICO scores are in the 650 to 680 range. They were close to 700 mark a couple months ago, but I have opened new accounts since then, and new inquaries. I was approved with a $300 limit, the same as my new wal mart card.

Review: I have applied for this card 2 times. I have a Macy's Star card. Macy's is difficult to be approved for to begin with. My score are higher then the 'needed' score to be approved, I have current in good standing accounts. I don't understand with GEMB. I love JCPenney and would have loved to have a card with them. I will still shop there. I won't give bad remarks about the company, I think they just need to re-evaluated the credit bank the work with. I think they would have more loyal customers. Cest la vie.

Review: I received the pre approval for this card back on April 2009! I had been at the time 8 years post bankruptcy, and a few baddies and paid charge off along the way so I really was surprised. I said what the hell I applied and to my surprise was approved instantly for $500. My FICO at the time were horrible EX: 575, TU ??, and Exp 529. In the last two years I have been working very hard to pay off my debts, and I have not paid anything late at all!!! Now after clearing up a few things My TU is 696, Exp 641, and Equifax 600. JcPenny had given me an automatic CLI 6 months after I had opened the card but only for an additional 200. Thanks to these boards I was not only encouraged to request one but just finished doing it instantly only and to my surprise there was my new limit $1500!!! I have done my best to use this card wisely try to PIF but even when I don't I try not to carry a big balance.

Review: Applied in the store (with all the "After-Christmas Sale going on and long lines at the check-out counter) with several items I intend to purchase. I already filled out an application form in advance and handed it to the cashier. She took my application, asked for an ID (gave her my DL) and typed in my info. I was just taking my chances on this one, not really sure if I would get approved because of limited credit history. I was surprised and happy when she informed me that my application was approved with $700 credit limit plus I got 10% discount for all my purchases on that day! I'm looking forward to experience all the benefits of being a JC Penney Card member. I wonder if they give automatic CLIs or I have to call and request?...

Review: I came across JCP Card and thought I would go for it! Well I was approved, but only for $100 which is really annoying! Lol I tried to call all of the backdoor numbers listed online, but most of them do not work. I then called into the regular line only to be denied any sort of credit increase. I explained how this low limit would affect my credit score negatively. I then hung up and phoned back and spoke with a supervisor, who requested I physically go into a store with my valid State ID and confirm I am who I say I am, and that my credit will be increased. I will head there later today, and let everyone know the outcome! My Current MyFICO scores are TU 647, EX 651 I have an Amex green, BB MC, Hooters MC.

Title: Denied For CLI As Well...
Date Reviewed: 2008-08-14 16:17:28 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I think GEMB is being very stingy with CLI on all their accounts. I too have had this card since March 2008 (started with a $100 CL), asked in the store if they could increase it and they said they needed 4 months of payment history before they are able to do so. I waited 5 months and last week called in and was denied for a CLI. The rep told me to wait until I received the letter before calling in and disputing. Well, the only thing that they are referencing in my letter is quote on quote "past or present delinquency on trades." Yes, its true I have had some late payments, but none in over 3 and half years. I called in today to speak to a rep who than transferred me to a very rude supervisor who said that everytime I request an increase they pull my CR and score me to determine if I am eligible for an increase and I didn't meet their scoring criteria. If I didn't meet your scoring criteria 5 months ago, than why did you give me a card to begin with? This is total bs and I am very upset, I am going to wait until after the 6th statement closes, and if I don't receive an increase, the card is going bye-bye. I like Penney's a lot and I buy a lot of things from there (and PIF every month), but I can use my debit card to continue on making purchases there is this is how its going to be. Feedback please?

Title: Not A Fan Anymore
Date Reviewed: 2008-08-11 08:07:08 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I was greatful for them to approve me for this card back in March, but my limit is still at $200.00. I have called and asked for a CLI and I have repeatedly hit the "love button" to no avail. Their reasons are "high utilization percentage". I have utilized this card very much and have always paid on time, in full, everytime. When GEMB reports to the CB's, it is always before I pay the bill off, so it looks like I am maxing out the credit line. ANYWAY, this low credit limit is not helping my FICO out, so I am afraid I'm going to have to cancel the card. I guarantee I will still get the coupons because my husband doesn't have this charge card, but he has spent a lot of money at JCP on our debit card. The recognize his patronage and send him the same coupons as I get with the JCP charge card. Anyway, as much as I appreciate their trust in me, my goal is to raise my FICO score while doing what I love most... SHOPPING.

Title: JCPenney Had A Change Of Heart
Date Reviewed: 2008-08-08 13:49:24 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I used Whychat's letter to dispute other addresses and sent off 2 wks ago. I got them removed from TU and EQ, still waiting to hear from EX but I also got a fraud alert attached to my file today which was a direct result of that letter. Long story short, I went in to apply for JCP card in person as I was denied online in June. I've since had my EQ score increased by 40+pts so decided to go in store as I've read on line and at FinanceGlobe anecdotal evidence that there is a higher chance of getting approved in store and of receiving a higher limit. In any event, I was denied. Today, I pull Truce Credit and there is a big fraud alert message telling me that I have to call TC and verify a lot of info. I did this(asked multiple questions) and they lifted the freeze. I was told that a fraud alter was put on TU report. He gave me ref# and phone# for TU. I called and they lifted it after I told them that I did not request it but perhaps the way the letter was worded led them to put the fraud alert. She told me that it was put there by another CRB. She asked me if there was anything else that she could do for me and I said yes, delete the addresses which she did. However, s he said that if someone is reporting it, then they may come back. I had some time planned of from work today so I came home and call JC Penney, go through the prompts and finally got a person. I explained to them that I would like to speak to a credit analyst for reconsideration as I applied in store yesterday and was denied and I believe that it may have had something to do with the Fraud alert on my file. She looks in the system and said, 'you w ere preapproved but I have to xfer yout o someone to verify your identity'. I'm starting to get excited... After, I was transferred and I explained to the gentleman what I was calling for, he asked me 3 Lexus Nexus questions about prior ownership of vehicles and addresses. He then said, congrats, you are approved FOR... Drumroll please... right under $1900 and you should receive your card in the mail in 7-10 days. (paranoid if collectors are reading this board) I'm so happy. Thank you Creditboards and FinanceGlobe. I've increased my Equifax score which they pulled by some 40+pts in two months, got 4 new lines from established creditors with decent limits, gotten some old addressed deleted, some COs deleted and I am looking at a clean Equifax report except for one item that I have to work on. I never expected +$1500 which is the around the amount that Wal-MartDiscover approved me for. p. S See my other posts this morning about not being able to access TRue Credt, having to call to verify info and get freeze lifted, finding out that a F/A was placed on all 3 of my credit files., calling TU to have it removed, now calling JCPenny back and finding out that I was approved for a decent credit line despite being denied yesterday. One note, the credit analyst in the Fraud department at JCP told me that the associate at JCP should have told me that they had a problem identifying me and that I need to call. He also told me that they would have called me or sent a lett er to me requesting identification. Oh, He also asked me for my phone#. p. S the associate int he store was not very helpful but the CSR on the phone were very, very helpful.

Review: Hi everyone, my name is Robert and new here. I have been reading everything here about rebuilding my credit and decided to join and give my 2 cents worth. Anyway I applied for this card on 6-6-2008 online after getting a preapproval in the mail and reading all the reviews. My CL was $150. I received the card on the on the 12th. I took it to the store to do a little shopping and to see if I could get a CLI. Well, they didn't approve a cli, told me it would be 4 to 6 months before I could get one. If I had known that, I would not have bothered. What can you get for $150 at Penney's? I bought a $21 shirt which I will pay off when I get my statement. If Penney's is going to be stingy with their credit, they sure won't be making much money off me. The $125 walmart card would have been better. At least I wouldn't have to drive 40 miles one way to go shopping. Hope this helps someone else. My FICO's are Ex 630 and TU 646. BTW I got approved for the BoA 99/500 card. Details soon to be coming.

Review: I applied for this card in July of 2007 and got instantly approved online for only $150. After a few months of on time payments I tried to get an credit limit increase and was declined. I waited a few more months and even sent a letter asking for an increase and nothing. I was on the verge of canceling the card but to my interest I decided to hit the love button just one more time and pop $1500!!! I now love the card and got the gold card to boot since I charged over $500 for the year. This is the only department store that will give you a gold for spending $500 in a year and a platnium card for spending $1000 for the year. Great sales and discount coupons for card holders as well. The CSR's could use a little service training however. I always keep this card at $0 to help my FICO score.

But on May 7, 2008 I received a letter saying that they have raised my credit limit from $500.00 to $650.00 My balance is $240.00 and I have not used the card in about 4 months. So maybe they reviewed my account. I am just glad that they gave me a credit limit increase!!!

Title: CLI? But How?
Date Reviewed: 2008-05-13 08:47:20 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I have a very low limit on this card even though I have a very decent payment history on it. I usually use this card at Sephora.com and as everyone knows, there is really nothing you can buy with a measley $200.00 limit. I really do not want to close it because it is part of my beauty budget... Including the eyebrow waxing salon services on top of Sephora's Bare Escentuals and Bliss face cream. Furthermore, JC Penney is a great retailer and this card brings more coupons and deals than any other retail card I have ever had with the exception of Kohl's. When can I expect to get a CLI? I see there is an option on my online account manager, but I requested an increase once before to no avail. I haven't had much luck with these online CLI requests. Is there a back door number like Capital One has?

My Fico's vary around 665. I called JCP soon after and spoke w. An american lady ;) to see if I could get a higher CL and she said that I would need to go into the store and have them call in once they verify my identity. Title: Applied Online
Date Reviewed: 2008-03-20 00:16:59 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: Okay I applied at Jcp.com and was approved for a $200 credit limit. I currently had at the time an account with Care Credit/GEMB which is the same "bank" that JCP uses so I figured I might be able to munipulate the other one based off the limit. I called because $200 is the lowest limit I have ever been approved for, I was insulted really. They basically said to prevent online credit card fraud/identity theft. Someone opening an account in someone else's name... They only approved it for $200. They immediately increased it after I called and confirmed who I was and my identity info... They raised it to $2,000. I used the account about every 4 months on a purchase of about 200-300 dollars. My balance at one time was $713. About 5 months later they automatically increased it to $2,300. Here is what I did. I used GEMB who finances both my care credit account and my pennys account, I used them against one another. So when one would increase the limit, I would request the same amount increased to with the other one. Any department store cards I would recommend using at least once every 4 months or so to maintain activity so they do not close it and may give you limit increases automatically. It will increase your chances for them raising the limit if you use it. The interest is high yes, but credit is a game and it costs money to play the game. So far I am winning their little game. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Review: Initially, I got this card in 2004 with a 150 limit. I went 30 days late, and my home phone and cell phone went off the hook! Someone from india calling me hour upon the hour, I am talking 24 hours a day! Calling at 12 midnight, 2 in the morning etc... I went to the store and payed the card off, closed the account immediately. By the way, during the 1-1/2 year period that I had the card they never offered to give me an credit increase. My second experience with this card was completely different. I applied and was approved for 500 in 7-1-2007. Four months later they increased my credit line to 1500. Two months later they increased it to 1800. In December 2007, I called their credit card department, and asked them if they would please remove the 30-60 late that was on credit report from the previous account I had with them, and they agreed. Two weeks later when I pulled my credit report I saw that they had removed the 30-60 late from all three credit reporting agencies. My score went up 20 points! In January 2008, I called and said that I do not like the 1800 credit limit because it was not a smooth number LOL, and asked them to increase it to 2000, and they did. During the holidays I spent over 1000, and now have their Platinum Privilege card. My experience with JC Penney has been very unusual, insane, and Surprising !! To say the least. Some contents of this review was edited by Finance Globe

Review: I applied for this card a week ago and was approved for a measley $150 limit. I called and asked the customer service rep how to get a better limit. She asked how much I would like and I said $400. She increased my limit to $500 on the spot. I could have asked for more but I didn't want to risk overspending. Ask and you will receive. I am very happy to have this card. My credit is considered fair. I was in the poor family for years. I now have a home depot, wamu Visa, juniper MasterCard, and Bank of America cards. Good luck to all of you rebuilding you credit, it does pay off! My score is now around 665 compared to 450 several years ago. By the way, I love the extra discounts JCPenny cardholders get. I bought an $80 outfit for $34!

Review: I got a letter in the mail saying I was pre-approved back in April of 2007. I was kind of skeptical. I mailed the paper back. About 2 weeks later I got the card in the mail. My credit limit is $500.00 I have only used $187.00 of that over time. I try to keep my balance low, so that I can bring my credit score up.

Review: I applied for this card a month ago and got declined by GE Money Bank. Then a few days ago I got a jcp pre qualified thingy in the mail and said hey what the heck ill go for it. I applied online and got approved for 300 credit line. I just find it odd how they decline you then a month later get approved for it.

Review: Well why when I apply in the store with a FICO score of 620, 631, 639 I am always declined? They sent me a letter saying that I had past delinquents of 60 days. My goodness, that was over 5 1/2 years ago and since then I have payed on all my credit cards on time and never late. Sometimes I believe that your address makes a big difference. My address is very close to a red flagged area. If I ever find out, I will file a complaint.

Review: I walked into JcP's after viewing this site, to see if my score of 590 would be enough for me to get approved. Within 5 mins I was told I was approved for $700. My FICO score has jumped another 5 points since adding the card to my credit. I'm very happy to get another chance in building positive credit.

Review: I applied for the JC Penney card in December on a whim. I was instantly approved for $500.00 at the point of sale. To date, I've only made two purchases, both for less than $100.00 Less than five month later, I received a credit line increase of $500.00.
