Title: Approved...CL Increased Because Of Balance Transfer $ Needed
Date Reviewed: 2012-09-18 22:04:26 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: Tried the online application twice and customer service couldn't find my application so they sent me to another department to take my application over the phone. After taking my information they sent me to another department to review my application. The rep had my credit report in front of her and she asked questions as needed to clarify. It was nice to talk to a human while they were looking at my report... She informed me that I qualified for a CL of $4000, but I explained that I was hoping for $9000 to do a balance transfer from a BOA high APR Gold Option Loan. She said that she would input my request but I would still only qualify for $4000. She submitted my balance transfer request and then surprisingly, to her and I, the system increased my CL to $10k! She informed me that I would receive my card in 1 week. CL $10k APR 19.99 (surprisingly high) Balance transfer fee 3% 18 mo interest free on balance transfers EX 768 EQ 768 TU 777 5 inquiries. 2 from recent credit apps (decline from Amex and approved for citi Forward)

Review: I applied for this card last April 2011 after feeling lucky about my Citi Diamond Preferred card. Well, was I sadly mistaken b/c I received a declined screen. August 29,2012 around 9:00p.m I applied again, waiting impatiently, was told that my application was being reviewed. The next morning I check my status and was approved for $3k. 15 months no interest and 19.99% after. I have three crds $1k, $500, $400 which are Hsbc cards. Citi $10k. The three HSBC cards are charge to about 90% and balance on Citi is $7k I initially had plans not to charge Citi but didn't work out as plan after paying hundreds in interest I decided to apply for this card and an American Express card on the same night to pay off my Citi Balance completely. Luckily, I was approved for both. Hist, no miss payments, no negatives and 3 inquires. Fico 710 according to Discover. My card was Delivered in 48 hrs.

Review: I was approved for $6,000 0% interest for 15 months for purchases and balance transfers also 5% cash back. Credit score Exp -674 Equ-684, Tran-678. I am so excited. I shredded all my credit cards back in September of last year when my credit took a nose dive with scores in the high 500. Been paying off all my credit cards to balances under $300 and now am excited that my score is increasing. This is the best credit card offer I received yet. So so excited.

Review: Approved for this card with a pre-selected offer in the mail in april 2011. Had a fico score of around 640 at the time it is close to 700 now i have paid on time and in full every month. Started with $1000.00 credit line was raised to $1350.00 last summer. Had bk in 2008 so this shows that if you pay bills on time after bk even with terrible sub prime cards and keep usage low you will get opportunities for better credit cards.

Title: Approved; Great Card For Transferring Balances
Date Reviewed: 2011-10-09 18:13:10 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I was given an instant approval online. However, to complete the application they asked I call and verify a few things, they did not ask for any income facts (like other FG members have stated). Initial credit line $3,000; I did ask for a higher limit during the phone call and rep explained Discover is typically conservative during the first six months with customers and to expect an increase after that point in time. Last known Equifax credit score: 722, unfortunately I haven't pulled my credit report in a few months so this may have changed. My primary reason for applying, to take advantage of the 0% balance transfer option for 15 months. I have been spending a bit too much the last 2-3 months and I think this is great way to consolidate balances, which are currently spread out awkwardly on separate cards. The customer service rep was very nice, and I look forward to talking with them again if necessary. I was only able to transfer 3 balances during the application; however, the rep indicated I can transfer more online anytime. My balances are small but spread out on other cards so this was kinda annoying. I am 21 years old, my first credit card was in 2008 after graduating high school. I hope this helps.

Title: Accepted And Excellent Balance Transfer Offer
Date Reviewed: 2011-10-03 21:54:59 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I was accepted with a credit score of 709 from all three reporting agencies, income over 100k and a few minor dents in my credit report due to missed payments. I had a Citibank Platinum card that I was late on about 8 months ago. The balance was about $8,900 dollars, with an interest rate of 28.9% and I had been late on my payments 3 times during the life of the card (5 years). Originally, the interest was a nice 12%, but the late payments bumped me up considerably. I had been told that if I made payments on time for 6 months in a row, my interest would be re-evaluated and should be lowered to 18%. However, after 6 months, I called and was told it still needed to be evaluated. After 7 months, I called and the customer service person said my account had identified as nonadjustable. She was very nice, but she said the company was taking stock of even minor risk accounts and not adjusting at all. I told her I was looking at balance transfer offers, and she said, "off the record, I would do the same." After reviewing many credit cards for transfer offers, Discover More's card sounded pretty good. I figured, why not? The offer online listed a 12-month 0% interest for balance transfers with an initial interest of 12%-21%. I applied, and checked my status daily. After 4 days, I was approved with a limit of $8,000 dollars, and a 3% balance transfer fee with 0% interest for 15 months instead of 12. Even though this offer was great, I still had to do the math because I'm like that. By transferring my balance, I essentially will save a total of 18k if I pay the minimum balance. I think you can guess what I did. After I transferred my balance, the total balance appearing on the card was $8,265. This worried me as, according to Discovers card agreement, an overdraft negates the promotion offer. After speaking with a representative, I was informed that transfer balance fees do not count towards balance limits the way an actual charge would, therefore, the promotion offer remained the same. I am 4 months into the card and the amount owed is currently at $6,548. The 0% interest offer is saving me a ton and Discover has been very gracious in offering me incentives to use the card, including a balance increase to 10k. Citi Platinum Card, in the meantime, immediately offered to lower my interest back to 12% and encouraged me to use their card. I was friendly when I spoke to them, thanked them for interest change, and mentioned how I had repeatedly attempted to lower the interest rate from what it had been. The representative, who was very nice, repeatedly apologized for not having it lowered sooner, and said "we hope you remain a loyal customer in the future." I paid off the card that day, the remaining $900 that is, and have not touched it since. I'm not vindictive, but I know when a card is taking advantage of individuals. I know this is sort of a duel-review for two cards, so let me sum up my feelings on Discover More. Discover More has been incredibly helpful in helping me lower my debt, and providing wonderful customer service. Despite my somewhat average score, they offered a satisfying balance and have quickly offered me more without an inquiry or other credit blemishing aspects. The card arrived quickly and the company has remained communicative over the past few months. This is how loyalty to a company is born.

Review: I applied for this card the same day i got instantly approved for a Citi card (9/1/2011) and got a "we need more time to process your application". 6 days later I finally receive a call from an analyst at Discover. I would have to say the phone call lasted about 20 minutes. She asked me about EVERYTHING that was on my credit report including why I had quite a few inquiries as well as some questionable personal questions. Which was explainable. She also asked me about a card that had got 180 days pasty due about 6 years ago and had to explain to her that i was 18 and didnt understand credit. At that point I was for sure she wasnt going to approve the application. But I did explain that we are all young at some point and I didnt know what credit was at the time. About 20 minutes later the analyst came back on the line and said "congratulations, your now a part of the discover family". APR is good at %9.99 and %0 for the first 15 months. Credit line is the lowest out of all my other cards ;-/ at $5,700, but oh well. Good part is I talked to 3 different people at Discover... All from United States!! That is a ++

Don't like that you can be denied for inquiries as I have been approved for cards I did not accept because of the final terms. Like Credit One, BestBuy Rewards MC, which I immediately closed for low limits being offered. Guess, I learned a lesson here. Also, some cards I just had no business applying for early on as they were for peeps with A--1 credit. Well no more for me. Got several cards, but failed at the major ones : ( Great English speaking customer service. That is a plus.

After two different attempt of trying to get a RECON, I practically gaved up on Discover. Within hours, something triggered Discover to give me a call back later on the day. After a brief conversation, they approved me. I've finally reached my credit cards goals. That goal was to establish a history with all Visa, AMEX, Discover & Mastercard. I will let all my cards grow and stop applying! Current Cards: AMEX Zync AMEX Blue Cash Discover Student More BofA AMEX Accelerated Rewards BofA Bankamericard Citi "Thank You" Preferred Mastercard(Previously Diamond Preferred Rewards) Best Buy HSBC Store Card. Which has a lot of features that are very useful. One of the features that is rather cool is you order a card in your choice of many different designs online. Great thing about rewards is you can even use them towards the payment of your card balance. You can cash them in $20.00 increments.

Review: Received this card after responding to an pre-approval offer via US Mail. I have used it several times and pay the balance in full before statement date. It offers cash back rewards, and cash access via, checks, direct deposit into checking account (this feature is available after you make several payments via your checking account) and ATM withdrawal. The cash access is not that great, only 10% of your credit limit, for me $300.00 I don't do cash advances but if I ever had to resort to one I would use another card. Initially the balance transfer offer was 0% until April 09 but according to my online account summary it's 9.9% though I'm not sure why. I've never used the balance transfer feature. Overall, it's a good card to have, has lot's of different card designs to fit your likes/personality if you're into that kinda thing. Customer service is top notch. I made a purchase online with a retailer but never received the items. Discover wasted no time with the charge back and crediting my account, less than 24 hrs. The site is easy to use, with a nice layout. Payments are posted fairly quick. I plan to build a great relationship with Discover! ~Tia~

I was approved online with a $8,500 CL and 10.99% APR. Does anyone know how they determine your CL? Iv'e been getting credit lines of between $8,000 and $10,000 on the cards that I recently applied for (which is nice), but somehow I thought they would be higher because my FICO scores are all in the 800's this year, and I have a very good income over 100K per yr. My wife just got approved for the Chase Freedom MC with a 13,000 CL and makes less than me and slightly lower FICO scores. Thanks

Review: Hello everyone, I am new to this board, but I love FG's website. I usually check it once a day to read new posts, etc. Well, my current credit score is 662 EQ. I'm unsure about the others. I recently applied for this card after a preapproved mailer. The terms were excellent, 0% interest for 12 months, 3.99 balance transfer rate, etc. They instantly approved me online for $500 bucks. This is by far my lowest major card credit limit. I have one bad item, paid state tax lien, that will fall off sometime next year. I called to cancel the account, but was told that it would show on my file as a closed account, therefore I decided to keep it open since I already took a hit with the inquiry. The representative told me to use the card and after six months I should receive an increase and that not a lot of people are eligible to become discover cardholders, therefore I should consider them allowing me to be one a compliment. I must say, I am not impressed with the small credit line thus far and I am finding that a lot of merchants do not accept discover; however their customer service was excellent. I must admit that I am close to my limit on a few of my cards/lines which probably played a part in their decision. I will keep you guys posted!

Since having this card, I have been approved for every credit card I have applied for. My Experian PLUS score has jumped almost 100 points since having this and other cards. They report the the bureaus quickly. Their customer service centers are loctated in the U. S. The CSRs seem to care and have knowledge about what you are calling about. It's the best among all of my cards. I would recommend this card to anyone.

Title: APPROVED!
Date Reviewed: 2008-08-13 20:51:25 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I figured since I was approved for the Citi Amex last week, I'd go ahead and finish up with an app to Discover to complete my mix. Approved CL $4,000 No AF 0% for 6 mos, then 14.99% thereafter 0% on BT for 12 mos. I think what helped me with this one is that I've been AU on my mom's account since 1999, but never had the card, just wanted the history when I was cleaning up my own credit issues. Anyway, I'll take it, just glad to get in the door on my own. Also, they offered the coolest looking cards too! 5% cashback on certain purchases, and 1% on everything else.

Title: Approved! Amazed I Think?

Review: Anyway wanted to share my experence to finally say I have a Discover card. Approved for $5000 limit instantly. I feel that was indeed an honor. 697 TU 701 EX and 709 EQ. 0% balance transfer for 12 months. No AF or anything. I am just excited! Thanks for reading. Also no BK or ever late. Over 3 years of credit history.

Title: Discover Lots More!

Review: Cash back on this card is awesome. It has its regular 1% cash back on everything, but discover picks certain categories for every quarter to get extra rewards on. Whatever you spend in those categories for that quarter, you get 5% back! I even got a 10% CLI after a year!

Title: I Have Just Recieved My Card.

Review: I have just received my Discover card in the mail today. I called to activate my card, which was easy, but what I did not like was the fact that they tried to sell me all this stuff that I don't want. I ended up putting other balances from my Amex and Chase Freedom card on there. I just wanted to use this card so I have only one payment to make not two. I don't really plan on using this card, knowing that it is not accepted everywhere. But the perks on the card do look nice.

Title: Any Info On CLI
Date Reviewed: 2008-05-01 13:24:53 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I received this card in the first part of April, with a CL of 2000, so far I think its a great card, the website was just made over but could still use a few more features, but I was wondering if anyone in the FG Community knew how Discover was on CLI's, I have read other post where individuals were getting 7000+ CL and I was wondering how Discover did their CLI, because there is not a "love button" on the website. Are CLI's automatic or do I have to call and ask any info that can be provided would be great.

Title: Excellent Site And Service

Review: Excellent card for geeks/web-buyers, as the Secure Online Account Numbers is perfect: generate a new credit card # on-the-fly (or use their program to fill forms automatically) that can only be used by the first business that uses the card. I use this frequently for net purchased, and over-the-phone purchases for an extra layer of security (moved from Chase, where someone charged $240 from a small Mass. School without my knowledge). Customer support is extremely helpful. I called to increase my limit (purchased an engagement ring for my fiance!), and they instantly raised the level, even putting in for more that showed the next day after a, "review." Very helpful with inquiries and very knowledgeable. Only issue with the support staff isn't with the staff, but with the number of times you have to use the keypad to speak with someone. Mid-APR, highly advanced card. I love it.

Title: Approved
Date Reviewed: 2008-04-07 03:39:32 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: Responded to a pre-selected offer. Submitted the app online and got the further processing line. Figured it was a denial. Two days later got a call from Discover to confirm my submission and information. They gave me a very generous limit. APR is 13.9 though, and they use two cycle billing, so I am careful not to run the balance. I think my scores were in the low 700's at the time. They pulled from Equifax. Still amazing to me to get approvals since I remember rolling change to get a secured card when I was younger due to not having a clue about interest, etc and not realizing how badly you can hurt yourself for a long time with credit. Message to anyone working on getting it together, it will happen - keep at it. Rewards are good with the card and you can shop from a link on their site to increase the percent you get back form the purchase.

Title: Approved 696 FICO
Date Reviewed: 2008-04-02 17:23:33 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I read the info here and applied based on some success rate seen by others with sub-700+ scores.  I applied online and was instantly approved with a $8,000 limit, 12.99 APR, 0% on balance transfers which I will do off lower cards. Thanks to the info here I let it rip.  I was in a bit of a payoff mode to get my util down when I got my bonus this year and increased my FICO score 40 points in the past month to 696 (big paying off mode) :)

Title: Applied And Got Approved !

Review: I decided to apply for this card after all the positive feedback I received from all of the members. I was not sure to apply or not because I Know not too many merchants accept discover but heard they have great customer service and benefits. I applied online and was instantly approved with a credit limit of 6000. This is my last credit card since I already have two amex, one BOA, one CITI. I'll keep you guys posted.

Title: SHOULD I APPLY ??

Review: I received a pre approval offer in the mail but I don't know to much about discover. How is there customer service ? I do know that one of the bad things is that most merchants don't take the card but that's all I REALLY KNOW. Anyone with a discover card please wirte your experiences with the card.

Review: This is what I got... Application is being processed...(aka Denied ) We have received your application but need to perform additional processing before we can provide you with a decision. Within 30 days we will send you more information at the address provided on your application. After you receive your Discover Card in the mail, return to Discovercard.com to manage your Account online. You can also take advantage of other great offers including Home Loans, Insurance, CD and Monday Market Accounts and more! Sounds a little contradicting, but my experience with 30 day letters is never good. Boohoo! LOL

Review: Applied on 911. My scores was good, but I didn't get it because of the all the new acc and inquiries. They did give me a counter offer - a HSBC Discover card. It's not the same as a discover but it will have to do. I'm going to what for a while and then reapply

Title: Wonderful!!

Review: I am LOVING my new MORE card from Discover. Great rewards, 0 interest intro period of 12 months, instant online approval. The online payment and account info is the easiest to use and to read of all my online accounts. Highly recommend. Approved with 650 average FICO scores. $2000 limit. Insanely fast delivery and CR time, reports to all three bureaus.

Title: Thanks Discover!

Review: I've spent 5 years struggling to rebuild my credit and 3 months ago finally received an unsecured MC with a small credit line ($750). I have no black marks on my report now, but only a short history of good credit. My FICO is now 740. Discover approved me for an $8000 credit line. I'm thrilled. Thank you Discover! I feel human again.

Title: It's About Time

Review: I've heard nothing but good things about Discover for many years, so I applied for a Discover card earlier this year in February and was turned down. I waited and reapplied this past weekend. My application was approved with an initial credit line of 3K and 0% on purchases and balance transfers until 2008.

Title: It Worked For Me
Date Reviewed: 2007-04-03 10:42:23 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I will add to the list of respondents that I also received the card with a generous credit line despite my FICO score of 684. I responded to a pre-approval offer I received in the mail. My credit record is clean but short. The 0% intro rate for 12 months is great for bigger ticket purchases. The rate going forward is still just 9.99% which is very competitive. Be careful if you plan to carry a balance on this card after the intro period. The two-cycle billing will cost more than traditional billing methods.

Title: Discover Card
Date Reviewed: 2007-02-05 16:50:17 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: I opened my discover card in 1994. They have excellent customer service. I lost my job in 2001, and lost everything. My car repo'd, house foreclosed, and my credit cards charged off. Discover tried working with me for as long as they could, but I couldn't even afford a good faith payment. Out of the $80,000 of credit card debt that charged off on me... Discover card, and HSBC was the only 2 creditors that sued me for the balance. Bank of America, Citibank, Citibank/sears, MBNA, Juniper, First USA, and Providian didn't sue me. They all went to collections.

Title: Approved With Lower FICO Score
Date Reviewed: 2006-12-12 21:59:48 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: After reading Sheryll's review about getting the Discover card with a lower FICO score than 779, I applied for the card. I too was approved with a $3000 limit. My score is 670+-. I believe if you have another card that has a $5K + limit, you are more likely to get approved. Looking forward to getting the card.

Title: Had No Problem
Date Reviewed: 2006-12-08 22:13:59 | Recommended?: Yes

Review: Even though this web site suggests an almost perfect credit record or a FICO of 779 to apply for this card, I took my changes because I really wanted a Discover card. A few friends have one and say the customer service is excellent. I applied for this card a week ago with a FICO score of 677 and was approved immediately (I received my card today) and was also given a very generous credit limit (Well above 7K). I do not have any recent late charges in my credit report, but I have had some issues in the past (about 2 years ago) (three 30, 2 60 and 1 90 day late pays). No charge offs/never bankrupt. My interest rate is at least 6% lower than any of my other cards and they offered me 0% balance transfers until 2/08. This combined with NO ANNUAL FEES and CASH BACK BONUSES (which are great if you shop a lot like me)this card is a no brainer. If this card is as good as it seems, I will most likely never use my other cards again.
